Scottish Youth Team 2023 - February Training
The Scottish Fly Fishing Youth team attended their annual training weekend at Forbes of Kingennie, staying overnight in the lodges. Youths from all over Scotland attended for a full programme of seminars, presentations, and practice sessions over the two days in preparation of their quest for gold in Wales, August 2023.
During this weekend the captaincy and vice-captain positions for Wales 2023 was decided by the team and committee. Jake Humes was awarded the Captaincy and Sam Harrison the position of Vice Captain, a huge congratulations to them both.
After everyone arrived and settled into their accommodation the weekend got underway with a meet and greet of team members on the Saturday morning.
Presentations and fly-tying demos throughout the Saturday were delivered by past team member Sean Queen and newly appointed captain Jake Humes as well as committee members James Litster, Kirk Lyon and Alasdair Mair.
The team enjoyed outstanding hospitality over the two days and were warmly welcomed by very helpful staff who went above and beyond catering to all the team and needs and dietary requirements during the stay.
On Sunday the team enjoyed breakfast rolls before heading to the Bankhouse pond for a day’s fishing. Everyone expected it was going to be a tough day with a competition being held on the previous day but some of the team did manage to think outside the box and try different tactics which enticed fish to the net. New Captain Jake Humes gathered the team for a photo opportunity and to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff that helped make their stay a very enjoyable and memorable one at Kingennie.
The Youth Team and Committee would like to express their gratitude to Kingennie Resort for their continued support and to fishery manager Paul Pratt for organising everything and making the weekend possible.
